This is Crash Coogan, the novel's main character.
This is Penn Webb, Crash's best friend. He is the only boy in his school wearing clothes from Second Time Around, a thrift store. His name comes from his great-grandfather, who chose his name because he won in the Penn relays.
This is Jane Forbes, the girl that makes Crash realize being a jock isn't all it's cut out to be. He learns this in an embarrasing moment when he asks Jane to dance, and she smacks him across the face and refuses to dance. She is Penn Webb's good friend, and eventually is Crash's friend as well.
This is Crash's younger sister. She helps Crash realize that Penn is a good kid and needs to be understand since she looks up to Penn. As you can see, she is a naturalist and a vegetarian. I quote, "I will not eat anything with a face," says Crash's sister.
